Bruin Home Solutions worked with Acco Engineered Systems in 2017 to compete in the ASHRAE 2018 Student Design Competition. Culminating in May 2018, the HVAC competition tasked the team with designing an industrial HVAC system for a 70,000 square-foot multi-use complex in Istanbul, Turkey.

Now BHS is leveraging this skillset and partnering with UCLA Architecture and Engineering to compete in the 2022 Solar Decathlon. The Solar Decathlon is an international collegiate competition that challenges teams to design and build a full-functioning net-zero energy home. We work to assemble the resources necessary to put forth a winning submission against some of the top schools from around the world.

We spread the awareness of zero energy architecture through education on sustainable practices. We realize the urban challenges we face when our experience of natural environment and ecosystems is limited by living in paved-over cities. Through this project, we would like to explore the design potentials of an attached residential building, which promotes the needed environmental preservation goals.
